The Admonition

This is “big brother” all day long. Residents of Alexandria, Virginia will soon be monitored as to whether or not they are taking part in the city’s recycling program. Recycling bin tracking chips are going to be added to the city’s recycling bins to keep track of both the bins and who is participating.

The Washington Examiner reports here, that the city council voted unanimously to charge an extra $9 to its residents waste collection fee. This in turn will allow the city to outfit the bins with a tracking chip.

Being cheap and dependable may have once been a good thing. But now a report by the New York Daily News says that for Casio watches, jihadist’s choice of timepiece, it may not be such a positive anymore. The report says that jihadists have used Casio’s so much to carry out terrorist attacks that airport screeners have been urged to keep a sharp eye out for them.

A long battery life, cheap price and wide availability make Casio watches the natural choice by jihadists when carrying out their nefarious schemes. Ramzi Yousef used Casio watches, so did Ahmed Ressam. Ressam is Bill Clinton’s most sighted counter terrorist victory; he plotted to bomb LA X back in 2000.

Okay, I’ll admit it. It’s kind of cool to have the President come to town, even if it is just for a short visit, and even if you disagree vehemently with all of his policies. No public appearances this time, just some rest and relaxation at The Grove Park Inn. Obama and Michelle, and I assume the kids, will be spending the weekend in my neck of the woods. The Grove Park offers world class cuisine, golf, spa, the works.

It’s kind of funny though. Even though Asheville is in a red state, it’s a hotbed for progressive ideas and thinking. It’s been dubbed “little San Francisco” if that gives you a clue. Anyway, a big Earth Day weekend festival had to be adjusted for the Obama Grove Park Inn stay.

Former Governor Sarah Palin rallied the Tea Party in Boston today. Thousands gathered in Boston to hear Palin’s message of less government and more freedom.

She said at one point, “We need to cut taxes, so that our families can keep more of what they earn and produce and our mom and pops then, our small businesses, can reinvest according to our own priorities, and hire more people and let the private sector grow and thrive and prosper.”

In stark contrast to the current climate where the only thing that seems to be growing is the size and scope of the Federal Government.

The Tea Party event in Boston is helping to close out the 20 day Tea Party Express tour which finishes in Washington D.C.

Due to requests under the Freedom of Information Act, the late Senator Ted Kennedy’s FBI file will be released into the public domain. But before the 3,000 page file (yes 3,000 pages) is made public, the Kennedy family will be allowed to carefully comb over the file and have certain information removed or redacted.

There is some speculation as to just what information will be included in the Kennedy FBI file. For political nuts like me, the file would be rife with interesting and slightly embarrassing info on the late Massachusetts Senator. There’s no doubt that the FBI accumulated much on Kennedy in his decades long career in the public eye.

Seriously? Again?

I suppose I’m only surprised that it hasn’t been done before. A pornographic magazine for the blind has been launched called “Tactile Minds.” Within the book are not only naughty words in Braille but raised photos of naked women.

An artist from Toronto named Lisa Murphy designed the book recruiting friends to pose in naked and strange positions, wearing masks and bondage and whatever else you can imagine. Murphy’s book isn’t your run of the mill Playboy. It comes with a $225 price tag and can be ordered through her website. Some of the more “interesting” photos in “Tactile Minds” are “bad bunny”, “naked pink elephant”, “love robot” and “frog prince.”

Murphy of course calls the pornographic magazine for the blind, art. Don’t they all? She says that most of the books that she has sold so far have been to patrons who can see. Well that’s a shocker.

Kraft foods held a contest asking young people who would like a shot at pushing the button for the Texas Stadium Implosion to write an essay explaining how they make a difference in their community.

The winner was 11 year old Casey Rogers, he helps hand out clothes and food to the needy. Casey was the man of the hour this morning as he fired the button that started the Texas Stadium Implosion. Video below. You just know that Redskin fans everywhere were up watching this and cheering. Texas Stadium had been there for 39 years, it was gone in less than a minute.

A 12 year old protester was arrested at Senator Tom Harkin’s office in Des Moines, Iowa. The girl identified as Frankie Hughes was protesting the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars when she refused to leave Harkin’s office.

Her mother was ticketed for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. I suppose allowing your 12 year old to exercise her rights guaranteed under the constitution is delinquency of a minor. Harkin must have had the girl arrested mistaking her for one of those rowdy tea baggers.

Police were called when another woman refused to leave Harkin’s office after it had closed. When they entered they found the woman and the 12 year old protester inside. They were both arrested for their misdeeds. You know, trying to let their elected representative hear their grievances.

A Drake University Law professor says she’ll most likely defend the protesters.

If you thought it was safe to stick your head back into the sand and forget all about the world’s problems by vegging out in front of the tube with American Idol, you’d be wrong. The Obama’s will be there too.

Yes, we saw him at the Superbowl, The Final Four, and now Obama will grace the ultimate pop culture venue, American Idol. Fox reports that the Obama’s (I assume Michelle) will appear on the once hit TV show to promote charities as American Idol “gives back.” Obama is like the terminator, he just keeps showing up no matter where or when. I wonder if Simon will be nice to him?

Anywhere possible that a lot of people will be watching, he’ll be there.
